What writers say

I've worked with many wonderful creative writers, as well as experienced professionals in other areas coming to writing for the first time.

Having listened to Jules' book "Writing for Audiobooks", I was keen engage her services and receive direct feedback on my audio tour project.  Jules' specific feedback on writing for audio and her expertise in radio journalism gave me exactly the insight I needed, to write for the ear, rather than the written word or a screenplay.

Jules empowered me with invaluable advice and detailed notes to help me refine my script, allowing me to take the lead to craft my own work.  This has given me an incredible sense of ownership and accomplishment having applied her general guidance and specific feedback.

Jules was always prompt and professional in her responses but most importantly, I felt she had a genuine interest in my work and was personally motivated to support me to improve as an audio writer.

Nick Fifield

Audio tour writer and producer

Jules is a wonderful mentor. She has given me a magic toolbox of dramatic techniques, which I have been able to put into immediate use. Her feedback, both written and face-to-face, is always constructive and full of insight. Working with Jules has given me the confidence to believe in myself as a writer. And she has a brilliant sense of humour!

Isabel F

Playwright and fiction writer

While I’ve many years’ experience with lighting and camerawork for broadcast media, I’m very new to podcasting. Working with a classical musician, I was fine on the technical side of things, but became stuck with scripting.  There was no trouble getting everything I wanted to say on to the page, but it just didn’t work when spoken.

So it was a huge relief to find Jules, who got straight to the core of the problem.  She helped with the structure of the whole programme, and with the order and presentation of the thoughts to make it an easy listen. Sometimes it was just moving a word or two, other times she'd explain the principles and I’d go away and work on it. Having Jules’ support and expertise with the script was a great experience, a steep learning curve and made the whole thing a lot more fun.

Jules’ generous advice helped me explore structure and dramatic techniques for my play, from writing convincing dialogue to exploring intriguing subtexts and everything in-between. Jules is a fantastic motivator whom I would highly recommend.”
